This two day course has been designed to introduce surgical trainees to safe surgical practice within a controlled workshop environment and it aims to teach, assess and certify the ability of trainees to use safe and sound surgical techniques that are common to all forms of surgery.

Level: FY2-CT1
BSS should be undertaken during the first year of surgical training (CT1) although it is permissible that trainees in foundation years may take part, as long as their involvement does not preclude CT1 trainees from attending.

Key benefits

 

The Basic Surgical Skills (BSS) course is designed for doctors who began their basic surgical training on or after 1 August 1996 and are preparing for the MRCS examination and course.

 

Completion of an approved BSS course is a mandatory requirement for trainees pursuing a career in surgery.

What you need to know before you arrive:

 

We are taking additional precautions to keep our staff, our delegates and the public safe. From the moment you attend our centre to the time you go home, your safety comes first and we have put in place new measures and steps to support this. We therefore ask that you take note of and follow our guidelines below:   1. Please come on your own unless there are extenuating circumstances. 2. You will be unable to attend the course and will need to rearrange your participation on the course if you or anyone in your household have: - A temperature above 37.8 degrees  - A new continuous cough  - A loss of, or change in taste or smell - Been in contact with a confirmed COVID-19 positive person in the last 14 days  - Been told you have confirmed COVID-19 in the last 14 days  - Travelled to the UK from a country outside those approved by the government in the last 14 days.  3. Please do not plan to arrive more than 15 minutes before your start time. This will allow us to safely manage the number of people on-site.   4. If you have any questions about the course, please call us on +44 (0) 798 3595 879. If you need to cancel your place on the course for any reason, we ask for2 weeks notice in order to avoid losing payment.
